Customs

The last procedure at the ports is to go though customs. You may bring into Egypt 200 cigarettes, 25 cigars or 200gr of tobacco one liter of alcohol and personal possessions. There are duty free shops, among the most inexpensive in the world upon arrival at all passenger terminals at Cairo International Airport. Payment must be in hard currency or visa or American Express Cards (with some restrictions) Items are subject to Egyptian customs Customs officials check carefully for any electronic equipment including videos, tape recorders, etc. Upon entering Egypt, visitors may have their valuable equipment endorsed on their passports rather than pay the duty. The endorsement ensures the items will be exported when the individual leaves the country. If the items are lost the owner can expect to pay full customs duty. Residents do not have this privilege and may be taxed at a rate of 10% -110% on dutiable goods

Registration

The Ministry of Interior requires all non-Egyptians to register within 7 days of arrival. Each time a non-Egyptian leaves Egypt these registrations is automatically canceled and must be renewed on returning. Failure to register upon your return to Egypt may subject you to severe penalties. When traveling in Egypt you must register within 48 hours at each temporary residence. If you are staying in a hotel the management will take care of this. Also, you must register within 24 hours of a change of address. Registration is a simple matter and usually takes a few minutes. You will need your passport. Go to your neighborhood police station or the Mogamaa Government Building, Midan Tahrir, second floor, 8-1 or 5-8. All foreign nationals

Should also register at their embassy.

Pets

You must think seriously before deciding to ship your animals to Egypt. Transferring a pet to Cairo involves considerably more than travel procedures and expenses. Boarding facilities in Cairo are extremely limited, and any animal tends to be an obstacle to travel. Pet foods are limited and expensive. Pets cannot be allowed to run loose Animal diseases, especially rabies, are prevalent. However, airlines and veterinarians will have information about carrying cases, costs of shipping, preparing the Animal for a transatlantic flight, inoculations and travel documents. Carry an official record of the pets inoculations and a veterinarian’s statement, preferably dated within a few weeks of departure, that the animal is in good health. Airlines allow only one small animal to travel in the passenger cabin at a time, and that privilege must be reserved in advance along with the owner’s reservation. It is dangerous to tranquilize an animal.

Many airlines will refuse to ship an animal that has been given any sort of sedative. if he net arrives at a different time than the owner, the pet could suffer the consequences since the ports of Egypt have minimal facilities for animal care, Wan transporting animals from Egypt to another destination arrangements must be made with the airline prior to departure. Payment is made at the airport at the time of departure. Payment may be made by credit card or in Egyptian pounds, with proof of exchange. Five year residents with a stamp in their passport do not need the bank receipt.  Pets are subject to a system of quarantining for different periods to make sure that they are safe and free from diseases.
